Keepin' It Clean

Traveling wreaks havoc on my diet. Especially when part of my travels include a visit with my family. I have SO MANY seasonal childhood favorites that I can only enjoy when I'm home during the summer, and unfortunately, none of them are even remotely healthy.

I was determined to find something clean to eat today. I met a friend for lunch (it's his birthday) and suggested that we check out the Plaid Giraffe on Main St. in Johnstown, NY.

The incredibly sweet waitress informed me when I sat down that she was only helping out temporarily and that the owner/ chef had stepped out for the rest of the afternoon (they only do breakfast and lunch) so she would do her best to make us what we'd like, but she didn't have experience making everything on the menu. I went with the Tuscan Chicken Salad (my friend got something similar) and LOVED every bite of it. Roasted red peppers, romaine, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta, onions and grilled chicken with a balsamic vinaigrette. So clean, simple and fresh.

After lunch I ran over to the local natural foods store, Just For The Health of It, to pick up some groceries for the week. I love cooking for my family and introducing them to new foods! Just For The Health Of It is AWESOME- a much needed resource in this area, and their prices on bulk food are fantastic!

I picked up some:

Have you ever cooked with any of the above? What did you make?
