SURPRISE!

Rise and shine! Kinzie and I were up early to head to Coney Island for the Irish Festival. As we strolled through Brighton Beach and stopped at Caffeine for breakfast!

We asked for turkey bacon. They gave us turkey, bacon. It was pretty darn good.

Sister-approved.

The Irish Festival was... underwhelming... In their defense, we were there pretty early before things got going... We couldn't stay for long, though, because we had to get home to set up for Joe's SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY!

 It worked! He was surprised!

 Lots of friends came!

And they got Joe an incredibly drawn out and involved board game- they know him too well.

In addition to ordering pizza, I made some bangin' avocado hummus.
1 16oz can of garbanzo beans, rinsed, 1.5 tablespoons tahini, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 3 pressed garlic cloves and an avocado. Blend. Scoop. Dance around in tastebud-induced ecstasy.

I also made this candy mountain cake! It was so simple! Two 8x8 yellow cakes filled with cream cheese frosting- iced with chocolate ganache and covered with Kit Kats and M&Ms.

 Joe was happy!

 Christopher liked Joe's cake too!

I got to spend lots of time with my boyfriend.

 Wahoo friends!

The drinking and board games lasted until 2a. Kieren and Jorge passed out first...

All in all, a successful night!

Do you like surprise parties?

:) Thanks, girlie! It was a hit!
Are you kidding?! I like that cake too!! I want a piece, now! I'm requesting that for my next birthday, forget the annual carrot cake!
I'm a big fan of surprise parties, when they are successful. I get really sad when the surprise is ruined. I've only had one surprise party thrown for me but it was SO awesome, and SUCH a surprise!
I gotta try that avocado hummus, btw. Brilliant.

Ooooh... Carrot cake is pretty phenomenal too, ESPECIALLY with cream cheese frosting...

I agree- surprise parties that are truly a surprise are THE BEST! And when the surprise is ruined- sadness! :(

Definitely try the avocado hummus! It was a hit! :)
